Quick update

Things have been a bit quiet lately, haven’t done much since Christmas other than one track day with the blue sprint,(which raised a few issues) and a holiday. Now back into the groove. Have changed the fuel tank from a 4 gallon steel to a 8 gallon Ali. tank plus added a second fuel pump. Both these have been done as I intend to do some two driver races, these tend to be 40 minutes or so long. Also been messing with the rear suspension. I have lowered it by a further 3/4″. This required the fitting of helper springs as moving the spring seat lower left the spring rattling about. The car now sits lower at the back instead of being level, looking forward to trying it out.

Just a couple of things happening at Sprintspeed

Some lovely AP callipers supplied for a FIA Spec. historic rally Sprint. The head gasket is from Seigmar Queck in Germany who has had some made for his Sprint engined TR7. Soon to be tried in an engine here.

Bigger brakes for the Blue Sprint

The last time I upgraded the front brakes was about 15years ago when I bought a set of Princesess 4 pot callipers and discs complete with hubs and uprights from Ken Clarke. These have done me very well. The only downside to this setup is that they are quite heavy. I had been given a pair of Ali Brembo’s by Darren (eightesflamer) in payment for some welding. These were for much wider discs than the ones I use, so I narrowed them down by 10mm. The added bonus was that, with a little bit of modifying, they  bolted straight onto the Sprint upright and plus there is a total weight saving of 3kg. Just a simple bit of machining had to be done on the hubs to get the discs/hubs fit right. These callipers only just fit under the Madin 3 piece rims (classic F3 wheels).I had to machine the inside of the centres out to clear, turn the hub face down to 5 inches and turn the rim fixing bolts around so that the low bolt heads are in the inside. Just a couple of mm clearance. A set of Pagid yellows and all is done.
Maybe a track day at Goodwood in a few weeks……

update…… Goodwood booked for the 2nd Feb for a shake down. The Jag or 944 is going as well, so various sons/daughters can have a play.

More Blue Sprint stuff

Just a couple of things that I’ve been up to. Been meaning to change the lower rear trailing arms to adjustable ones for awhile.  Finally got round to doing it this week, made up a threaded block which I welded into the car end of the arm, Fitted a poly bush to the axle end ( to keep a degree of compliance)  and a rose joint into the block. I’ll keep an eye on these during the season, if there are no problems I’ll streamline the design so that’s its not so chunky. The arms that were fitted about 15/16 years ago will go in to the ‘racing spares’ box. These were fitted with the ST hard rubber bushes, they are still perfect and usable. Further to the rear suspension I’m getting parts together for another cylinder head, Bodger Ben gave me some light weight cam followers ( well not gave me, we tend to work on a barter system ) there is quite a weight saving, see photos. The con rod is an ‘A’ series one, it is titanium and weighs less than half the Std. one, and cost shed loads. One day!

Tony Browne’s hillclimb/sprint project

A few photos of Tony Browne’s ex South African race car, which is being rebuilt as a hillclimb/sprint car. Plus some of his beautiful TR4 which is his current hillclimb/sprint car. If the standard of workmanship on the TR4 is anything to go by the Sprint will be fantastic.

Tony Brownes Visit

Tony Browne and beautiful TR6 Tony Browne Tony Brownes ex South African Race Sprint

Tony Browne came to visit to chat about things Sprint, specifically regarding his new purchase a ex South African race car. Tony and his wife intended to build it into a  hillclimb car to share. Tony already competes in a TR4. As you can see, Tony arrived in his stunning TR6. More pictures and information to follow as I will be visiting him to have a look at his cars.

Last outing with the HRDC at Mallory Park

A few pictures on the facebook page of our last outting in Aidans  Ashley and A40 at Mallory Park. All didn’t go quite to plan. The head gasket failed on the Ashley and ingition failure on the A40 plus a couple of other issues that were dealt with. Out of four races entered (three were double drivers one of which was swapping cars halfway through as well !), two were finshed including a second place and two DNF’s. Not withstanding the two DNFs it was a fantastic day to finish off the season. My thanks to Aidan for letting me share the racing and his cars with him. Out in the Sprint next Aidan !
